carnivale

Like I promised a couple of days ago, here are the photos from the carnival Tina and I took Gabs to on Sunday. We had a wonderful time — G was insane with all the carousels, the popcorn and cotton candy and the little things she could buy. She was just so happy! And I have to confess that I was happy too — put me in a carousel any day of the week and you’ll turn me into a giggly mess.             Thank you for seeing, and don’t forget to stop by my ask page if you have any comments or questions!

weeks of summer

Hi, guys! I hope you’re all doing wonderfully and that you’re enjoying the Summer just as much as I am! I’ve had an unbelievably busy week, but I managed to photograph a lot of the things and places I visited, so I thought I would share the photos with you!
Since my four year old sister, Gabs, was with me, I had some fun with her at our beach house.

The hydrangeas were absolutely stunning. I can never get enough of them.
Gabs and I found these snail shells; she thought they would make a nice picture, and she was right. It’s incredible that this girl loves photography so much, already. She’s adorable. And she’s constantly trying to steal my camera. I need to be more careful.
Oh, I have to tell you guys about my rooftop garden! It’s blooming so beautifully! Right now I have blackberries, blueberries, raspberries (even though they’re not coming out this year), strawberries, peppers, eggplants and tomatoes. I’m enjoying it so much, watching them grow and get alive and productive. I’m a city girl through and through, so I’d never had this kind of experience all the way. My herb gardens usually die out, but these are lasting and actually giving something out!
Of course, I had to make that place pretty and I took my summer lights upstairs. I bought them at IKEA; they work on solar energy and they look wonderful on pictures.
I’m not a huge fan of sunset photos, but this was just too beautiful not to share.
Oh, and my favorite experience of the week! I finally got around to make the cherry jam I had been promising everyone here at home. It took me a few hours on thursday afternoon, but the result was pretty amazing. My hands were black after I spent an hour taking seeds off 2kg of cherries, but it was absolutely worth it.
I have one more event I’d like to blog about: a trip to a Carnival with my sister, but since I have so many pictures, I post that one individually.
For now, I hope you’ve enjoyed this post — thank you so much for reading and for letting me share my life with you guys!
Have a wonderful week!

underwater

deep blue waters, part one My first attempts at underwater photography. I had a small water tank and a piece of tulle, that’s all it took.  I will (hopefully) post more pictures on Flickr and here during the next week!

love shoot: sofia + rui

I met Sofia a few years back, when we were doing our first NaNoWriMos. We talked online, occasionally, and finally got to be face to face at last year’s Tumblr Meet, here in Porto. She’s a wonderful friend and I was ridiculously excited when she told me, a couple of months ago, that she was spending a weekend here with her boyfriend — and that they wouldn’t mind it if I took some pictures.
We met on a cloudy day back in April. They were absolutely wonderful throughout the entire session — patient and kind and willing to try everything I asked them to. These pictures were a delight for me to process for many reasons — because they are a sweet, good looking couple, because they were fun as hell to be with, but mostly, because they are so in love that it made me happy to be able to share it with the world.
Sofia e Rui, muito obrigada pela paciência e por me deixarem partilhar estas fotos com o mundo!

Red, or the woman with the cherries in her hair [backstage post]

I’ve decided to use this blog more often, to give you backstage pictures of my shoots, of other commercial-type works that I do and to answer questions. Feel free to drop me a word at my ask box with any questions or suggestions you might have!
———-
For a while now, I’ve been wanting to do a color-based series. I ended up starting it accidentally, last week, with my butterfly shot — the accidental orange theme of the photo prompted me to think about more and more ways to base portraits on color.
I did a couple of attempts for the red; I tried with wool, with my gymnastics ribbon, with lipstick. And then last weekend, I was finishing lunch and it came to my mind: cherries. It took me forever to get them to stay in my hair (bobby pins are a godsend!) and to walk very softly to my grandmother’s bed, where I took the pictures. But I think it was worth it. Below, you have a few of the outtakes.
^ taking photos in my grandmother’s room is a guarantee that I’ll have at least four saints looking at me, including a Baby Jesus. I like them.
